JULY 2016 - CURRENTLY WE ARE PROCESSING BOTH TUSD AND MARANA SCHOOL DISTRICTS FOR THE DISPOSAL OF TEXTBOOKS AND LIBRARY BOOKS AS WELL AS EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL.
July 2015 - Currently we have a bid with TUSD for the Disposal of Used Textbooks and Library Books. We will honor that bid with any district or school that requests that service. Please contact us for details at
I will continue to pick up discard library books directly from schools. Allow up to 2 weeks for a pick up. Email is the best communication to schedule a pick up. (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Remember that boxes need to be medium size, size of paper box or smaller. If they are too heavy or large I will need to have them re-boxed and the pick up rescheduled. Be sure to mark the boxes either ABS or Discard or I will have to leave them as I will not know that they are for pick up.
All Textbooks should be packed separate and are picked up by the warehouse. (call the warehouse at 225-4904 or 4910) Books are checked for current adoptions and placed on shelves available for other schools in TUSD district to request for use.

The district is closing 11 schools this summer. I will continue to pick up discard library books directly from schools. Allow up to 2 weeks for a pick up. Email is the best communication to schedule a pick up. Remember that boxes need to be medium size, size of paper box or smaller. If they are too heavy or large I will need to have them re-boxed and the pick up rescheduled. All Textbooks are picked up by the warehouse. Be sure to mark the boxes either ABS or Discard.
Have a great summer.
The district has now opened their book depository. The warehouse will be picking up textbooks directly from schools. I will pick them up at the warehouse. Library books will still be picked up by me directly from the schools.
So for Textbooks email Will Harper below and for Library books email me at the address below. Thanks, Doug

This book pick up season should be less hectic since the school board decided not to close any more schools. However the usual rush this time of year is still with us now. All the schools are calling to have their library and textbooks picked up as school closes. I usually run about 2 weeks out at this time of year. If I can get to you sooner I will try my best.
Please have all the books boxed up in small boxes no bigger than paper boxes. Re-using textbook boxes is perfect. Try to save them when you reorder from book companies. The best rule is if you can pick them up- I can also. OSHA requires no more than 50 Lbs each box. Mark all the boxes ABS or Discard and be sure to tell the staff where they are located. Often I get to the school and no one knows where they are or anything about the books. Thanks and see you all soon.
As a reminder we pick up all textbooks that are not current adoptions and your weeded library books as well as educational materials. Furniture and electronic equipment is not part of what we are contracted to pick up.

Lately many of the schools have been putting the discarded books into very large boxes that we cannot pick up. As a general rule when boxing the books use this - "if you can pick up the box then we can." Try and use the boxes that the new adoption came in. If we arrive at the school for a pick up and the boxes are too big we will request that they be reboxed and the school will have to re-schedule to have them picked up at a later date. If you know that you will need boxes please email or call us and we can arrange to drop off some boxes.
Appointments- if you call or email I will call or contact you within 24 - 48 hours. If you do not hear back from us in that time we might not have received the message. Many schools are calling the district or warehouse for pickup. We do not receive any messages left at the district. Please use both methods of communication calling and emailing to insure we receive your message. You can even fax us. All the numbers are listed on our contact button to the left.

Welcome back to school. Many schools called for pick up when school closed. We worked throughout the summer but did not get to many of the schools or they were closed. Please let us know if you still have books and we will schedule a pickup starting August 10th. Thanks for your patience!! Doug
Arizona Book Services is the sole provider for TUSD in the service of pick up of all disposal of textbooks, library books and educational materials. Contact us either by telephone, email or fax listed below. Please provide the information below when contacting us and we will respond with an approximate pick up date and time. Many schools call and request pick ups at the same time each year. Thanks for your patience as we attempt to help everyone in a timely manner.
If possible please try to coordinate Library and textbook pickups at the same time. We do not pick up currently adopted texts so if in doubt call the district office for advice.
If you will not be at the school leave the information where the books are located with someone else on staff that will be there for summer. However if we do not get to you before everyone leaves we will be back when everyone returns later in the summer.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE BOOKS?
Arizona Book Services has provided a disposal service for TUSD since 1996 in conjunction with the Educational Enrichment Foundation and WORLD CARE. We continue to work with WORLD CARE here in Tucson. The books picked up at the schools are processed first for value for the district, then donated to WORLD CARE. Books at WORLD CARE are placed in storage for donation to schools throughout the world. Small quantities are placed in their bookstore, located at the old Keen Elementary available to the public for purchase. The remainder of books are recycled. We use a Phoenix company that works with the blind and disabled. No books or educational materials are placed in landfills. See links below for more information.
